Summary
Pleasant moorland and forestry
Section 4 of the Epynt Way runs from the Cynghordy Road west of Tirabad across pleasant agricultural land and through forestry to the cattle grid above Craigyrwyddon, on the edge of the Halfway Forest.
Route Description
From the Cynghordy road, head along a hard track (SN 872 412), taking the right hand fork as it climbs east past the receptor site. Leave the track (pSN 871 410) where it turns south and proceed up, keeping below the ridge. FIBUA village may be seen to the E and the Brecon Beacons begin to appear. As the downward slope begins, a small lake will be visible at the edge of the forest on the north side. Follow the fence line down to a farm gate which will be visible ahead – please close it. A sharp turn east is required (SN 861 402) to pass through a nearby gate onto a visible track. Leave this track (SN 861 399) to head down to a muddy gap in the tree line over a culvert. A U turn is taken here to head east down to a small ford.
Turn south here, climbing steadily towards the remains of Pant Glas. Turn south-east here and continue climbing up to a gate (SN 862 392) which is a link west to the Crychan Trails.
The Epynt Way continues down to a cross roads then follows hard tracks south-west (SN 859 384). Turn sharp east here down off the track and cross the Nant Gwennol stream to arrive at a ruined homestead of Cwmllynwennol (SN 862 383).
Go south to climb up a delightful old green lane with unfolding views across Carmarthenshire, and then follow the fence line to reach an internal military road. Continue south-west along the fenced section of the road before heading off past the red flag to follow down the west side of a forest block (SN 858 368) which is the end of this phase of the Epynt Way, adjacent to the entry point at Clwyd Watsh and another link to the Crychan Trails.
