Open moorland with two descents to river bridges

Route Description
From the viewpoint (SN 861 318), drop down to the boundary fence, taking care crossing 2 busy roads, and follow the fence line to SN 864319. Leave the boundary here to cross above a deep gully, then rejoin the fence line as it changes to an internal fence. After the fairly flat initial 2 km stretch, the path begins to descend near the bridle gate (SN 874 326) which gives access to the external bridleway network.
From here the path winds down to a bridge across Nant Gwydderrig. After crossing the main river, a subsidiary stream must be forded before climbing a bank. Emerging from the river valley the path then heads back to the boundary fence and climbs steadily beside the road (SN 878 322). Turn west here beside a wood, passing between two plantations. The map shows a stream crossing here (SN 883 334) but the path has been slightly diverted to avoid a boggy area.
The going is heavier from here over uneven ground as the path climbs to the corner of a plantation. The parachute drop zone to the west may however provide interesting sights. A small lake, Llyn Nant-llys, is visible to the east. After emerging in a generally north-east direction onto firmer ground with wider views, reach a high point (SN 888 341).
The final part of this phase enters an area rich in ecological features, meriting the designation “notable site”. Wax cap mushrooms are often seen here. A steep downhill section takes the path across a track and down to cross Nant Eithrim (SN 893 348). After crossing, proceed east along the high bank to the boundary fence and then follow it up the hill to the access road and receptor site (SN 894 351) above Llandeilo’r Fan.
